The Importance of Strong Connections For Your Mental Wellness

We all experience moments of sadness in life. Sometimes the cause of your sadness is easy to identify. Other times, it’s hard to pinpoint where the sadness comes from. Regardless, these bouts of sadness and depression can leave you feeling drained, emotionally exhausted, and physically fatigued.

At GSWC, we have women from all walks of life come through our doors. A large majority of women come to us for high-quality psychiatric care to deal with serious stress, depression, anxiety, or trauma. Many are highly motivated to work with qualified professionals to get their lives back on track through connection, excellence, dignity, and transparency. These are the principles that inform all levels of care at our clinic.

How Strong Connections Can Impact The Way You Feel

Research continuously points to the benefits of social connection. Strong and supportive connections can make people feel happier and healthier in life. Why?  Because “happy hormones” (think: Dopamine, Serotonin, Oxytocin, and Endorphins) promote positive feelings that can change your mood for the better. We can all enjoy a boost of oxytocin by doing pleasurable things such as nurturing healthy connections in our lives.

Healthy connections allow you to get to know someone deeply…

They provide a judgment-free space to share openly…

Strong connections help cultivate joyful life experiences through shared moments.

Your relationship with family, friends, work colleagues, and the larger community adds to your identity. Belonging to positive communities that support you through setbacks and growth can help reduce tension, stress, and depression. Sometimes, the greatest gift you can give is the gift of unconditional love and acceptance.

Making Strong Connections at GSWC

We believe that the connection between our team members and our individual clients is paramount. We do not allow our team members to judge, embarrass, or talk down to clients at any point and they would never want to. We all know that the trust required to talk honestly about extremely personal things such as your traumatic experiences or your addiction issues can not be built alongside unnecessarily restrictive, mean spirited, and intimidating treatment environments.

To further help our clients strengthen connections, we provide counselling therapies to help clients explore how they see the world and their place in it, with the goal of personal healing and growth. Our clinical staff is trained in numerous therapeutic techniques such as Narrative Therapy, Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy, and Dialectic Behavioural Therapy. Counsellors use techniques that best suit the client to help get their lives back on track.
